The Ultimate Guide to RVing Near Lake Cumberland: Why Old Chimney in Jamestown is Your Perfect Basecamp

If you own an RV, you know the “State Park Shuffle.” It’s that stressful dance of trying to back a 40-foot rig into a tight, wooded spot while dodging kids on bicycles and navigating a crowded bathhouse parking lot. While those parks have their charm, sometimes you just want space, peace, and a level gravel pad that doesn’t require a 12-point turn.

Enter Old Chimney RV Park in Jamestown, Kentucky. Nestled on 11 scenic acres just off Old Hwy 127, we aren’t your typical cramped campground. We are a family-owned, “essentials-first” destination designed for the self-contained traveler who wants to experience the best of Lake Cumberland without the headache of the crowds.

Why Jamestown is the RVer’s “Secret Weapon” for Lake Cumberland

Lake Cumberland is world-famous as the Houseboat Capital of the World, but for those of us who prefer to keep our wheels on the ground, the choice of where to stay is critical. Jamestown sits right in the heart of the action, offering a unique “triple-threat” location:

  • Minutes from the Marinas: Whether you’re launching at Jamestown Marina or heading over to State Dock, you’re less than 10 minutes from the water.
  • The Cumberland River Tailwaters: Just down the road, the Wolf Creek Dam offers some of the best trout fishing in the Southeastern United States.
  • Small Town Charm: Downtown Jamestown is right around the corner. You can grab a local bite, stock up on supplies, and be back at your quiet campsite in minutes.

Meet John: Your Local Guide to the Best Stay

Whether you need a tip on where the fish are biting, the best place to grab a burger, or a hand getting settled into your site, John is known for being incredibly helpful to every guest who pulls through the gate.

Big Rig Friendly? You Bet.

We built Old Chimney with modern rigs in mind. We offer 20 spacious gravel sites featuring Full Hookups (20/30/50 Amp service), city water, and sewer. Our sites are designed to be “Big Rig Friendly,” meaning you won’t have to worry about low-hanging branches or impossible angles.

While we don’t have a bathhouse or laundry facility, our guests actually prefer it that way. By focusing on the essentials—Free WiFi, spacious sites, and a massive fenced-in dog park—we keep our rates affordable (ranging from $39 to $49 per night) and our environment quiet. It’s the perfect spot for the RVer who brings their own shower and kitchen and just wants a beautiful place to park them.

Things to Do Near Old Chimney RV Park

1. Fishing at Wolf Creek Dam

If you’re an angler, you probably already know about the Cumberland River. The cold water released from the dam creates a premier habitat for Rainbow and Brown Trout. Old Chimney serves as the perfect “basecamp” to rest after a long day on the river.

2. Boating on Lake Cumberland

With over 1,200 miles of shoreline, there is always a secluded cove waiting for you. Spend the day on the lake and retreat to the quiet of our 11-acre park in the evening to avoid the noise of the marina docks.

3. Relaxing by the Old Chimney

The park gets its name from the historic stone chimney on-site. It’s a favorite spot for our guests to snap photos, watch the local deer graze, and enjoy the sunset over the Kentucky countryside.
